Fashion Sense 101: You first.

What does it take to be coined as a “fashion icon”? Does it require skill , fame, or passion? Definitely the latter. Iconic looks aren’t forced nor improvised. It lives within the moment and within the wearer. Social media makes it seem effortless or an instant success when someone becomes an icon , but are they really one to look up to? An outfit serves as mirror to the soul of the person. Their style determines who they are, However, because of fast fashion the idea of being yourself is being replaced by being “acceptable”. Modern beauty standards from facial features to complete appearance are so high that people manipulate their bodies to reach it – but what for? What is the purpose of being an icon if you don’t even recognize yourself?

Fashion grows with the person and does not come FROM the person. It changes gradually overtime and is improved through trials and experiments. It may seem silly to be different than others. You might be labeled other than the term unique but remember that being yourself is what makes you stand out. Secondly, is your purpose? Why do wear such an ensemble ? – is it for you? your crush? or simply because you were told to? Wearing what you are comfortable and confident in gives yourself the boost of self-esteem that any platform shoes could never surpass.

Ever notice how today’s fashion icons are dubbed as eclectic, magnetic, or stunning? It’s because they are themselves. They allow themselves to be seen for who they are. And that is the complete takeaway of this essay. – You become you and people will want to be you.

Passion is what creates a FASHIONISTA.
